They are unexpected, unpredictable and can leave unimaginable damage in their wake. In the United States we have experienced many of these crises over the past few years and in these tragic times <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">we have come together to form a united front to provide care and support for those affected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Right now, in\u00a0East Africa, there is another, unexpected and tragic, natural disaster taking place. After years of severe drought hardening the land, 2018 has brought extreme rains which have flooded massive portions of\u00a0Kenya, Somalia and beyond.\u00a0<strong>More than 150 people have died, hundreds are missing, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced from their homes&#8211;losing everything.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chrf.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/43.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1488 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chrf.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/43-300x167.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chrf.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/43-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.chrf.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/43.jpg 517w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here is a description of this nightmarish scene from our partners in Kenya:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>This week on Wednesday at Solai Nakuru a water dam broke in the evening. This happened at a time when families were in their houses and were taken by surprise. the damage caused was extremely fatal. The water flowed down the slope sweeping, covering and uprooting everything on its way including hundred<\/em><em>s <\/em><em>of homes, people, livestock, trees\u00a0 etc. This year has witnessed the worst floods in Kenya. The weather department has indicated that the situation is going to be\u00a0continue\u00a0for the next\u00a0several\u00a0weeks. All the people in Kenya have been put on alert as a result of submerged homes, people trapped in water and mud. The last two months have seen extraordinary rains of very high and intensive magnitude in 32 Counties out of 47 across Kenya.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chrf.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1486 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chrf.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chrf.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.chrf.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/1.jpg 511w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is in tough times like these which we must come together to\u00a0<strong>support our fellow man<\/strong>; and that is just what we, at CHRF, are doing.
