A Priceless Education in Nicaragua

For over twenty-five years, Children’s Hunger Relief Fund has been working with our partners in Nicaragua to help the poorest of the poor in their country. Together we’ve faced not only a hunger crisis that has one in every three children malnourished, but also we’ve battled the devastating economy through micro-loan programs. This summer CHRF was able to send a team to Nicaragua to visit our different projects.

Mario Aviles, CHRF’s project manager for Nicaragua, shared his country’s current conditions with us, “Together with Children’s Hunger Relief Fund on the ground, we are able to help feed many children in our local communities on a daily or weekly basis. This simple act of generosity not only provides a meal for a hungry child, but it also relieves the burden for many of the local parents who sometimes can struggle to provide for their children. It also helps enable us to reach out to the families and parents to encourage them to send their children to school. Because we are feeding their children, they are much more receptive to accept our help.”

Mario continued, “But that’s not all, with the past help of CHRF and our partners we have been running a small school with hundreds of students in an extremely rural area of Nicaragua. Without our school many of these children would have no way to find another avenue for education. It warms our hearts to see the smiles and faces of these children as they sit and learn in the classroom or as they play soccer at lunch. It may not seem like a miracle for our donors and partners from the states, but in many places education is a priceless gift. We are so fortunate to be able to provide that gift to our children in Nicaragua.”

Over the last several years, CHRF has been able to help orchestrate feeding programs for hungry children as well as provide emergency relief after a devastating earthquake destroyed many homes last year. “With the help of Children’s Hunger Relief Fund in our country, there is no doubt of the positive impact we are making in the lives of many children and families.
