Desperation in Somalia

Though you wouldn’t know about it from the mainstream media there is a staggering epidemic and horrifying disaster occurring everyday in the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan). THOUSANDS of children have died already this year with more needlessly dying every single day. Sadly, most people don’t even know about this crisis, and even less are willing to do anything about it, even when it comes to making the difference in an innocent child’s life or death, EXCEPT YOU. Our faithful CHRF team and donors who have generously continued to support our efforts to help these thousands of children and families by doing anything we can for them.

Can you imagine yourself, or worse, your loved one and children being without food for a day? With no restaurant, grocery store or market nearby, and no money to purchase food even if there was any. It’s over 100 degrees outside and you also don’t have any clean water! Now can you imagine a second day passing with still no food? No clean water! Can you imagine the absolute desperation that sets in for you and your family then? When you do finally find some food, what little there is, who will you choose to give it to? Which of your children will eat? Will you eat? If you don’t eat what will happen to your children?

Can you even fathom the desperation that must set in this scenario which for THOUSANDS of mothers and fathers is real life? The panic that comes over you as other families lose some of their children to starvation. There’s no phone or email you can use to make a desperate plea for help. You are alone, forgotten or ignored by the rest of the world.

Now, comes a stranger and gives you a small card and tells you to be at a nearby place at a specific time. Out of desperation you go there and what do you see? A miracle. Over 100,000 pounds of food has been transported miles and miles to this place for one reason, to help those children in the world who need it most desperately. Children who are literally on the brink of death and starvation, malnutrition spreading like fire. But now thanks to these strangers, these people who have driven miles and miles across dangerous deserts putting their own lives at risk, your local village, with your family and over 1,400 families like yours will have over 250,000 meals to help them survive! Can you imagine these incredible circumstances? It sounds beyond possible, like fiction. But sadly, and yet miraculously, this story, and others like it, are very true.

Our Children’s Hunger Relief Fund International Emergency Team travels to the most desperate areas of the world for one purpose only, to find the children and families that need help the most and provide it to them, to bring hope to the hopeless.

Our team leader writes: “Daily life is extremely harsh - intense heat, drought conditions and continued threats, attacks & kidnappings make life difficult and challenging. Somalia is one of the most dangerous countries in the world at the moment.” We’ve already helped distribute over a quarter of a million meals in the region but our team is dedicated to do more after seeing the surreal circumstances that these mothers and children are living in.

Our team leader writes directly to our supporters and team: “Thank you for caring for each of these children and for giving them and their mothers hope. Our next goal is to purchase & deliver a further 300,000 pounds of food and distribute 1 million meals this year, they need help, but we cannot achieve this without your support.”
