Disaster after Disaster: Haiti Needs Help
On August 14, 2021 a devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck South West Haiti damaging and destroying over 84,000 homes, leaving over two-thousand dead, over 10,000 injured, and hundreds still missing. With so many injured, the local hospitals are overwhelmed and unable to help everyone and are being forced to improvise. People are being forced to lay in hallways, corridors, and out in the excruciating heat while awaiting treatment. Because the refrigeration in the morgue has been out for several months, bodies are being shoved into tight spaces until families are able to bring their loved ones to private embalming services or do an immediate burial.
To add to the severe conditions, just days after the earthquake, on August 16 Haiti was hit with heavy rains and strong winds as Tropical Depression Grace made it's way to the island. Even with what little shelter still remained after the earthquake, people still chose to stay and sleep outside due to the dozens of aftershocks still occurring, covering themselves with tarps to try to stay dry from all the rain.
The fear families are facing is unimaginable. Having no shelter to guard them from the storms, doctors and hospitals so overwhelmed people are praying to be seen before it is too late, no food or water paired with intense heat, the people of Haiti are suffering greatly and we need to help.
By the grace of God, we have partners in place in Haiti preparing food parcels for families that have been victimized by these natural disasters. The food packages include items like rice, beans, spices, cooking oil, and fish when possible. For as little as $35, you can help feed a family of five for an entire week. $150 can feed a family of five for an entire month.
The children and families in Haiti are counting on us. We are so thankful for your ongoing support as this work would not be possible without you.
God bless you and your families,
The CHRF team
